Karine Polwart blog: In A Bleeze

So the behind the scenes joke is that in 45 years the English Arts Council has never contributed a penny to The Cambridge Folk Festival but tonight the Scottish Arts Council laid on wee willie winkie sausages and teeny yums yums (extra deep fried doughnuts for the unintiated!) for the launch of "In A Bleeze", the exceptionally mature and accomplished new album by BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Winners Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller. Catch them live at Brian McNeill's big session tomorrow on Stage 2 and on Sunday afternoon at two in The Club Tent for beautifully unaffected and absorbing joint harmony singing. Just great.

The event also launched this year's inaugural "Showcase Scotland" at Cambridge. I arrived a bit late after braving the A1 from Edinburgh with two shouting infants and a million verses of Old Macdonald and met Martin Carthy en route to the caravan with all the action.

"Do you know where all the Scottish people are?" I asked.

"Oh, just keep walking" he said "there's one every couple of feet. ..."

He's right! So meantime I'm off to Peatbog Faeries who are well and truly stomping theirs ...
